I just gave it a look since I haven't seen it since Late summer.
I was worried from all the stories I've heard about a CAI filter getting dirty quick.
I clean mine when it absolutely NEEDS it
When its black and caked
The more you clean it the weaker the filter cotten gets
The sooner you will have to replace the filter or get crap in your engine.

The pipe was clean the whole way up but the throttle body had some build-up in it
So I used some TB cleaner a tooth brush and injecter cleaner.
Feels better now.

Your suppose to clean the filter every 3k to 5k miles.  Basically every oil change.  You will feel a difference when cleaned because it has been so long.

Yeh i clean mine every oil change and i def. notice the difference from that short interval but then again i don't have a cover for it.  Nad i switch back anf forth from two filters.  one that el prototypes gave me and one monster one that i bought recently.  How will u know when the cotton has gone bad from over cleaning?

Put a flashlight trough it....if you see any gaping holes....of light you have issues.
