air intake for my corollaa

i'm trying to keep my engine bay looking as stock as possible , just clean looking , while i love polished alum or s.s. tubing as much as any ohter car guy , for htis car i'd like to keep things looking stock..

do you guys think this idea would give me the same or almost the same effect as a true cai..

from the stock air box i have the plastic hosing that breaks into two .. one goes right behind the headlight , for air , the ohter turns donw and thru to a noise baffle i assume..


if i were to get to that baffle that is riht in front of the fornt wheel and remove it and add some tubing , and cut an opening in the plastic covering under there.. this area is often used as a place for a cone filter


the red is what already exists , the blue is the tubeing i would add

the stock paper filter , of course would be replace by a K&N reusable filter for its better flowing properties..

i know it can be done , and i'm sure it would help wiht air flow .. but would this have the same or similar effect as a cai?  or is this more of a ram air type thing..

Guess what, I'll be doing that SAME think on my Camry later this month.  I have slits in my bumper, so I'm running it there.  Oh, and get rid of the resonator.  It's basically useless.  It will be either just as good, or better then a CAI/SRI.  But to be honest, this IS a custom (made by you) CAI.  It does not have the "cool" factor, but is cheaper and better.

i was also thinking of doing it right up front on the bumper , but it ends up being rihgt by the turn signaal and there are no openings near by .. i could get it more in the center where the openings are , but then that would require more turns , which i'm sure would slow down the air speed ..



plus i looked around , and i think it would involve me cutting metal to fish it thru that far from whre it starts

Darn, I see what you mean.  I'd also say not to go to close to the ground either.  not sure thge design of your engine bay, but any way to route it to the grill area?

or you can consider making something like this with a k&n or whatever just make sure its filtering the right way. elminates some of the stock piping and opens up the air flow a bit more. the only thing about the custom tubing is water being drawn in like a cai could do. you don't want to hyrdostatic lock your engine. its very bad. water does not compress so instead you get  bent rods and possible valves.
