The hole allows Adam to pass drugs into the trunk during a high speed chase... That way when he is running from the cops he can pass the drugs to the hostage and then dump the hostage, claming that the drugs where his...It also allows him to throw his gun back there so he can claim he did not have access to it for the shootout they claim happened...
