its an 87 corolla , 4ac 5 speed

i'm not sure if i'm keeping it too llong or what but in the mean time i'm tryiing to do some cheap/free mods that will pep up the engine a little

would like to remove power steering , but before i do that will just remove belt and see if i can live without p/s , then i'll remove entire system

soo..

as you can see the Crank , alt and what i assume is the water pump are under one belt , and the crank , A/c and another pulley that seems to do nothing are on another belt ..

then on the water pulley behing the belt that goes to crank

..

it is in my opinion that i can remove the p/s belt and it will not affect the water pump, because after all it IS directly run by another belt to crank which is what turns everything ..
Also seems like i would have to remove alternator belt first to remove p/s belt by the way everything is hooked up

is this all correct ?

aslo if i decide to keep it ,once i remove everhthing  i know i can just loop the fluid lines in the steering rack to keep everything lubed up , but in the mean time , without the belt and the complete system still in i should be fine right ? i mena no damage should come as long as there is fluid in there?

You should be able to remove the P/S belt without any issues, but I am not sure if the seals in the steering rack may rot out from no moving oil, my guess is not, and even if they do, they may not leak if they are not under the P/S pump pressure.

Thanks..

i removed belt today ... i was going to do it the "right way" , removing alt. blet first then loosening the p/s bracket and then replacing alt. belt and retightening the wole thing ... but it was a little difficult , especially the p/s adjustment cuz bolts were in very tight spaces and i didnt have the right size open end wrenches and the socket thingy (bahhh , cant remmber what its called ) would not fit ... soo oooo

after some hard thinking ... should i go to hardware store and pickup the right sized tools ? spend more money ??

nnaaaahhhhh.... a few strokes with a sharp steak knife took care of it

anyways as expected , i do feel a little more pep in the engine , especially right after foot is let off clutch , b4 there was a slight bog..
it is harder to turn then my previous car which came with manual steering from the factory , but this was expected since i already read the the gearing on manual vs. p/s racks is different .. in any cas it insnt that bad ..

i'm going to remove the whole system , but not today .. its too damn hot!!

another question , as you can see in pic above the a/c  is on a sperate belt that goes from crank to a/c to what it think is an "idler puelley" , i think i can also remove that and not have to find a shorter belt , since the idler pulley serves no real purpose?

the a/c blows kinda cool at best , and too recharge it means having to upgrade system for newer more ozone freindly refrigerant .. i dont want to bother since i many not keep it , or if i do it will be more of a project car .. so i'd like to ditch the a/c for some weight savings ..

i figure between the a/c and p/s thats gotta be atleast 40 , who knows maybe even 50lbs?

i've also removed the carpet in the reaer section of car , i didnt weight it cuz i dont have a scale , but it was heavier then i thought .. going to do the front too and also and sound deadener inthe foot well area

lighter battery (since i can take that with me if  i ditch the car) and relocation to rear are on the list

i'm going to evaluate the whole car and see what else i can remove but not risk saftey , or atleast not while its my daily driver

You can recharge the AC system with a R12 equivalent that they have now and not have to upgrade the whole AC syste. I did it on a hooptie that I had and no problems arose. Of course if the system is leaking, or if the compressor is bad then it is not worth it. I got it done for around $85 in NYC, and it included a vaccum/discharge, oil change, and refill.

But if you used your new "method" of removing the belt, it should not have any problems. Keep in mind that there is more to the AC system than just the compressor, so you may want to look ar removing those parts as well if you decide to go that route.
