#1 Lots of cash!
there has been a lot of talk on how to turbo the 1ZZ engine on the web. I know one kid in CC is getting sponsored to do the turbo kit for him. From what I understand our engines are not the best type to be turbo'ed. This has to do with our cars having an all aluminum (SP?) engine makes them weaker.
So, with that said these are some of the parts that you would need in no particular order, and by no means a full list!
1- Turbocharger - Garret T3 or something similar 2- Intercooler - Any will do, even from a junkyard 3- Wastegate - to relieve extra unused boost 4- fuel regulator 5- higher flow fuel injectors 6- bigger exhaust pipe 7- modified exhaust manifold 8- pipes for intercooler connection 9- gauges to monitor boost/air/fuel mixture 10- bigger fuel pump 11- way of tricking the ECU that everything is ok and not turbo'ed 12- lots of time and money to do a project like this and hope that it does not break your car!
That is just part of it as I nderstand it. Someone else may have some more knowledge and info.

i was gonna post this later on ... but might as well do it now...
in the 3rd week of november of this year... spool, a company based in virginia, is releasing a turbo kit for the 98-02 rolla. they are releasing stage 1-3 kits... each more expensive obviously... the stage 3 which is being tested right now... is somewhere around the realm of 200-250 hp. there is of course that annoying little com chip that limits the speed max, but that can easily be... fixed.... it is automatic friendly... and the kit comes, from what i understand, with everything neccisary to not blow up....
price: stage 3 kit @ $2500-3000 extra gas : an extra gallon lost per mile $1.70/gal hearing that blow off valve "psssss" when you redline next to a wise ass in a civic : priceless

OK, how in the hell do you have a turbo without an intercooler??? Also, it looks like you have to relocate the battery, I call this one :bs: , plus is damn too cheap for anything to be included! Just a CAI is worth like $200! Well, I 'll check the feedback on the guy and see what they say. I would love to hear from someone that has bought this kit and see what they have to say. I know a good quality turbo goes for about ~$2500, and not to mention how hard it is to turbo our cars because of the returnless fuel system! Anyway, I don't feel this one too much, but if someone wants to spend the money and be our guinea pig??? I'll buy you lunch!!!

something is not right here... the price is way too low first... the other thing is the lack of intercooler... something is lible to explode... and the thing that finally has me wondering is the fact that it can universally fit the vvti and nonvvti corollas... i read somewhere that this might not be possible b/c of how the engines work... that you would have to manipulate the ecu to fool it around the vvti...
i say... the only option we have right now is to wait on spool to finish their kit in a few weeks... or have someone custommake one for you.

I can't wait til it comes... Thanks for the update...... Finally the sound that I've been waiting for "PSSSSSSS" haha Oh and there was another turbo that I came across on ebay, something about this turbo fitting ALL TOYOTA CARS and all you needed was to buy and aftermarket intake system, oh and I forgot to mention that it was an electric turbo too. It was also for around 150 bucks. It was awhile back that I came across this auction. I pretty much don't believe much of the stuff posted on ebay. Especially when it comes to turbo-ing my car.

maybe it is possible to have a turbo without an intercooler...
the stage 1 kit from spool is non-intercooled....
here are the specs as of now...
"Our stage 1 kit will be a 4-5psi max non-intercooled kit that will be availble for $2499
Our stage 2 kit is intercooled and will require one to run a return line to utilize our FMU This will be $3499
Our stage 3 will be just like our stage 2 however it will include a preprogrammed emanage and should be good up to 9psi on stok internals. This will be $3999 "
it will be available in 2 weeks... and if you want in can list the parts that make up each kit.

you can indeed run a turbo w/out an intercooloer, but the psi levels arent high enough to cause danger to the block in anyway. Usually stage 1 turbos are that way. But most people try to jump into stage 2 and above to simpley save money in the long run by doing more at a time.
I cant wait to work on mines. Turbo here I come, in 2006, lol, what by then my warrenty should be over and I'll only have 1 more year to pay off the car, lol

i have talked to the guy at spool running the show... and if i cant get something happening there... im gonna see if TRT can help out... get the price dropped a tad.... hehe... maybe $2998!!

oh also in doing just stage one you dont exactly get the best bang for your buck because you arent using the turbo to its full potential leading to the fact that you will be running low PSI, meaning less potienal in HP and torque. My suggestion instead of spending on stage 1, try to go a bit further, in the end, the end result will be satisfying, lol

As Klepto mentioned, the intercooler is not necessary for a turbocharged system. It's function is to remove thermal energy from the pressurized air, thus making it denser (aka more bang). We can probably get away without any fuel management upgrades for light boost systems. A returnless system does not preclude a turbo.
Funny thing, I read on nasioc.com that some kid with an electric supercharged Corolla challenged a turbo Suby.

right now the only Kit being fabricated is for the 98-02...
if you want one for your year, youll have to custom make it... it will be about the same price... maybe a little more.
