This winter I?m doing a frame up build on a 1992 Toyota Supra Turbo. The goal is a roughly 600Hp 10K RPM monster powered by the venerable 1JZ 2.5L twin Turbo.

Picked up the shell in late December and started stripping it out.

Shortly there after I received my 1JZ from a Canadian Importer.

Now that I had the major components I started stripping the motor and car to begin the buildup.

Some Evil items for the build, if you recognize what they are.

I?m spraying the entire interior with a sound absorbing coating called Spectrum, which will give the car a pleasant and quiet ride without the weight of the normal matting. I started at the rear and am slowly working my way forward, prepping a little and painting a little.

One of the mice parts of the car is the fact that it came with a set of top of the line Ohlins Coil Overs.

Had to do some work on my 89? today But I still got some stuff done.

My 89?

I took the drivers head light assembly apart, I will be fitting it with smaller round Hellas and modifying it to open less. Looks like an evil ore in that lighting?

I Also got the dash out, putting me one more step closer to prepping the front haft out the interior for painting and some sound dampening.

I also found a little time to work on the motor?

I will try and post what is going on, on a relatively regular basis?  If anyone is around the Auburn aria and would like to come pitch in for fun or the sake of learning something feel free to drop me a line.  I?m always happy to have people around to help out, particularly if they are good at body or painting or happen to own a little wire feed welder for sheet metal?

Thats awesome, I can't wait to see the progress.  I wish I had had time to build up the 7m when I swapped in a new one but unfortunately I was in a huge hurry.

I just placed an order for the rest of the sound deadening paint for the interior, as I just ran out. I will post more next week.

Some more stuff just showed up in the mail today.

And my wife just made some bread, bread fresh from the oven is so good?

What a day :brick: ? I was in the mood to work on my motor, so I started taking the head off. Well I stripped the head on one bolt, then broke a drill in it trying to remove it:grumpy: . I will haft to grind it off tomorrow or something? After that I went back to the thankless and argues task of re-wiring the car? I feel really lazy about it, I normally remove the pins from the connecters if I?m taking a wire out, this time I have just been cutting them flush at the backs of the connecters.

My wiring work? It?s not hard or anything, just annoying as all heck?

Some of the worthless stuff I removed from the car tonight?

I?m taking a short brake from the re-wiring the car game while I wait for some parts and tools (new dies for my crimp tool)? So in the mean time I have gotten the head off and stripped and I?m starting to think about how I want to port the sucker? I?m thinking about just polishing the runners out rather than really porting it, just so I can maintain my killer power band?

As always, if any one wants to stop by and pitch in a bit, I have a policy of if you help me I?m happy to help you when you want/need it. I try to keep the policy that way to help build some bridges in the community... Sort of like my Supra buddies, if a supra ever brakes down out of town, most supra owners have a little network of people who will help them out of a jam, the network is pretty much nation wide and some places over seas. I?m also always happy to have extra hands or at least some one to talk to while I work.

Ok, so I had a gay stuck head bolt that stripped out, so I drilled and broke a drill?

So after some time with the grinding stone I got the bolt out?

So know I can start working on the head?

And I started putting some sound deadening in my doors?

Very nice work! I wish I was closer and I for sure would stop by. Now why all the sound deaning? Just to keep it quiet, or is there a motive to your madness? :evilscie:

The sound deadening is partially because I’m a bit of a home audio file, which means I will at least put nice speakers in my car and I want them to sound good.  The second motive is to make the car comfortable to be in and seem benign to passengers until I step on the gas.  The third motivation is weight re-distribution and reduction, I’m taking weight out (I have carefully measured how much I’m allowed to put back in) by scraping out the stock asphalt pads and spraying in the deadener over some strategically placed sections of second skin and the car will be quieter than stock.  The final resin is by leaving the fire wall sound pad stock and killing the road noise I will be able to hear and there for adjust/diagnose my motor more easily.  Maybe I’m a little old school for doing some of my tuning and adjusting by ear but it definitely makes it easier to hear potential problems and identify spots in the power band that need work.

I?m not really sure yet.  I may just keep my 7M white 89?  after all it only has 35K on the factory new 7M that is under the hood and it has all the records for that motor.  That?s pretty rare for supras?  I was also considering seeing if some one would be willing to trade me a mid 90?s MR2 Turbo for it, I have always wanted to build one up?

Having said all of that, If any one wants to pick up any sound deadening stuff, PM me, I can get you a discount and I will get one for referring you?

Took some time today to finish deadening my drivers door.

Also took the opportunity to sand and prime some small rust spots out.  To keep her in top shape.

But at that time I had two supra already and I knew that my wife wold flip out if I came home with another one. Good to see that it went to a good home. To bad you live over two hours away, I would have loved to help with the project. Supra to me are not just a hobby there an addiction.Cheesy

Wow, that's one hell of a project! Keep up the good work (and the updates!)

Also, tell me more about this Spectrum stuff... like prep work needed, application, and where you get it! Does it really work as good as the matting?

Ok. I promised a project update. I have been super busy with everything so please excuse the tardiness of this.

First of all, I have new cams on the way, semi custom 272 intake and 264 exhaust side. There experimental units from Crower with a couple of miner tweaks for my motor. As of yet they have only been installed on one other car to date and he said they where wild hot (mine will only be a little different from his).

On that news, I have finally had the time to start cleaning up the head. I got the sealing surface up to speck and now I?m starting my head work. I will be polishing out the runners on both sides and the domes. The exhaust runners, domes and valves will be coated with ceramics. The seats and guides will be replaced, the valves will be stainless of normal size and the rest of the valve train will be upgraded for 10K rpm with Ferra comp.

I?m starting to think about the painting of the car as the sound deadening is starting to come to a close. Other than that, there will be more as I get things done, time permitting.

I have no money, just knowledge and resources.  I pay for most of my parts by doing odd jobs for other people.  Believe it or not the cams where 50% cheaper than off the shelf because they are an experiment.  The valve train I will be trading some work for and so forth.  That is why a lot of this takes me so long to get done.

As far as knowledge, I know a lot more about this stuff than most people because I have done a lot of it at some point and have experience.  Also I grew up in an automotive family in MI.

With resources, I’m just lucky.  But I get my resources by sharing them with others to gain access to there resource pool.  It’s all about being mutually beneficial.

Progress update.

The wireing on the front end of the car is about 80% done, I?m starting to rap the harness back up and clean the engine bay. I?m getting together with Black2NA on sat to discuss painting the car, of which I have settled on dark silver Cheesy . And I also decided to ditch the AC, so I have pulled the lines and the chill box out, it will save me close to 25lbs. My fuel rail came back from the shop yesterday, the monkeys F?ed it up, put a spot of weld right on the AN fitting for the return:brick: . I will post more on Sunday, I will be working on it big time on Saturday.
