now when you said under 3grand for the swap, is that motor included? or do I have find one? and what exactly does the swap consist of?  and about putting a turbo on my 4-AFE...it's got about 207,000 miles on it.  Do you know how much it would cost to rebuild and get a turbo? and where can I find a turbo for my car?, I cant find anything out there.

sorry for all the questions but I've had nothing but trouble searching and find nothing but dead ends.

thanks for your help Dr.Tweak

The 3 grand covers the whole swap, all parts and labor. I can find the engine for you, that's not a problem. The swap is like this one:

For the turbo system, I can build you a custom one and install it for around $2500. Rebuilding isn't worth it, we can find a lower mileage replacement for a few hundred bucks.

The nice thing about going turbo is that you get about the same if not a little more power for usually a cheaper price, plus you don't have to worry about things like finding parts for a rather rare JDM engine, if that's the case. Also, if you end up blowing your engine up with too much boost, a replacement is usually easy and cheap to find.

hmm...sounds like either way it's about the same money.  But I think I'm liking the idea of doing the swap, I can get a newer better motor and wouldn't I still have the option of putting a turbo on that motor later?  oh, and if I do go with a swap does that mean I have to get the tranny with that motor or is mine ok? and if I bring my car to you could you also do things like lightweight flywheel and such all at the same time?...If I had the money right now to do it I am just about ready to take the road trip.Cheesy

Yeap, that's the advantage of the swap is usually you have more room to upgrade down the road when you have more money. Each side has it's advantages.

Usually the tranny comes with the engine, but otherwise, yeah yours can be used no problem. I see you have a '91, that being the case, the tranny that comes with the engine is an upgrade for you.

wish I had the money right now...where can I find specs on this motor? everything I have found so far isn't telling me much about the motor but more what they used to come in.

Probably you're going to want a silvertop, so search for 4AGE silvertop and you'll find what you need, probably. They are rated at 160hp, 1.6 liter, redline is like 7800 I think, and they have VVT.

just a thought that came up when talking to my brother about the swap...what happens with my old motor and tranny?...Oh, and I just thought of another one, the 4AGE...does anyone make a turbo kit for it? or would that have to be custom as well?

Well, it belongs to you, so whatever you want. Most people just give them to me, like a "tip", and I might use parts off it or whatever. Or, they sell them on ebay or a forum and I can ship it out from here.

It would have to be all custom, but I can do that here no problem.

Just curious...motor and tranny swap, same deal, but a 3S-GTE motor...how much would that cost? and which would you prefer?  Oh, and I've been researching exhausts, I know I want to go MagnaFlow, but say I went and did a new full exhaust from the downpipe to tailpipe 2" (from what I've read on the MangaFlow site, 2" is just what I would need for a motor of my size and hp) would this size still be ok for the 4A-GE or 3S-GTE? or would I have to go bigger, even by a small amount?   I'm itching, I would like to add some extra pep for now that either doesnt cost much or I can still use when I do the swap.

About $5000 to $6000 installed. Which swap would I prefer? The 3SGTE for sure.

2" will be fine for a 4AGE, but for a 3SGTE I would consider 2 1/2 to 3".

here's an interesting thought I've been having...but dont actually plan on doing something like this...What would be involved in making my celica AWD like the All-Trac? assuming I already had a motor like the 3S-GTE.  I've just been kinda curious.

It would take quite a bit of work, but it could be done. Where you located again?
