So I know I told you guys a few days back that I had a clacking sound coming from my rear right side. It sounded like metal hitting metal and it was driving me crazy. So I took it to the mechanic to get it on the lift and I found out what it was.

It happens to be the rear stabilizer link. For those of you at the last meet that was the part that Rob had a hard time putting the nut back on, and the one that Juan noticed it was different on the 98's that on the 93-97's. Remember guys? Well, anyway my mechanic wanted to charge me $90 to replace it with an aftermarket one, I said "No thank you" and headed to te dealership. When I got there he had it in stock got $63 and brought it out to me. To my surprise the replacement was exactly like the skinny ones that Rob and Juan have on their cars! I asked him why it was different, and he said that Toyota had replaced the part number and this was the replacement! He also said that if they replaced the part it must have been because of something that went bad with the original.

These are pictures of the newe one:

See skinny like the 93-97's! Anyway, I will take pictures of the old ones once I take it out. It is making a lot of noise, so I may have to change it this weekend. So, anyone down to help me for an hour or so?? Just to hold the screw while I tighten the nut!!!  :-P  Remember Rob!!

So yeah, the inside bushing went bad, and that is what is making the noise.

That is all.

the reason why they went back to skinny tube like fram was because it was more stronger then the wishbone one. also it doesn't flex as much as the wishbone when driveing.same thing happen to me the REAR LEFT stabiliter link snap while i was driveing

I have been working on my car all day long.. First of all I went and got me a 2 ton jack and two stands from Sears. They have a special fro $29.99 you get the whole package, originally $49.99. Sweet deal! I got this in order to change my rear link. I also decided to change my oil myself so I got all the necessary tools for that as well. I figure now that I have the jack and stands I should start to change my oil as well.

So, here are the updated pictures. The link was not as much of a pain as I imagined, but I tell you having the jack and stands made everything a lot easier. I could not take the noise anymore so I had to change it! My car is very dirty, so excuse the mess!

Old link and broken gasket. This is why it was going *clank clank*

______________________________________________________

Old link out. Notice thicker shape.

______________________________________________________

New link in. Rob, I learned that if I put the bolt in the strut first, and then pulled down on the stabilizer bar while laying underneath it made a world of a difference!! *I need to get my car steamed cleaned from underneath!*

_______________________________________________________

My new Craftsmen 2 1/2 ton hydraulic jack! What a difference it makes!

________________________________________________________

My jack and the stand. WooHoo! I am almost a pro!  Tongue

Just for reference this is what the joint from the TRD muffler to the pipe looks like. It looks like my home depot bolts are holding up well!

Well, I spent a lot of time between this, and the oil, and one other project that I will post about later. It was fun doing all this work, and the best part is no more *clak clak*, it was starting to get very annoying!

Nice, work Xav...   So this took you all day??  Hey do you think my links will need replacing soon??  remember my Links where already leaking at the meet??? Well if i hear any clacking sound from the back i'll know what it is.. Thats also was a good idea just pulling down on the stablizer bar, that could've save us a good 30min during my GC installation, lol..

No, it only took me like 20 minutes to do this part. I was just running around gettin gthe jac/stands, oil, filter remover tool, and doing other errands. But I did work on my car for a couple of hours, but with everything else that I did it feels like the whole day! :p

Yes, if you hear the claking noise then that's it. BTW, how is your suspension doing now?

Oil filter remover tool??? Whats that, you mean a filter wrench thing??  When i showed Tony how to change his oil, i removed the oil filter by hand, i didn't really need one..  Anyways, my suspension is feeling very unstable right now..  When traveling at high speeds the steering doesn't feel very accurate, and feels very sloppy and loose..  When i raise my car back up for winter, and put the steelies back i'll get my allignment, but havn't had time nor money for that yet..

Well, i tried with my hand, but the damn thing was tight! I think King Kong did a job on it! So I had to get an adapter for my wrench. It was only like 3 dollars on sale at the auto parts store! And yes, it was tight!!!!

It really shouldn't be on too tight anyways, because like i was telling Tony when i was helping him with his oil change, if you screw on the oil filter to tight you might break the seal and then you'll have oil leaking..  The people who put it on for you should've tighten the filter enough till it touches the surface and then a 3/4 turn afterwards..  Dont forget your also not suppose to mega-tighten your oil plug either..  The worst part about changing oil, is burning yourself with the hot oil :onfire:

Yeah Rob, I think the bastards had put it on too tight! I just did a 3/4 turns after I put it on. I did burn myself as well when taking off the filter! But it was not too bad thanks to my .99 c Auto Parts store gloves! :p
