i've been going thru a few problems lately, mainly involving my battery and my alternator.  i got a new battery and a new alternator so now i dont have a problem with my car not starting.  my sub seems to not be drawing too much power to kill my battery now but i still have an amp at home waiting to be installed for my interior.  is there any other way that i wont put that much strain on my current battery that i can still get this amp installed eventually, besides putting in a cap. which will still strain my battery to an extent to keep it charged.

Well other than the cap, I'd say get an optima battery (I think the yellow top is for systems). I put one on my mazda and the lights never dim on me. Also, reguarding the cap, how many farads is it and how many watts are you going to push for the system? I only ask this becuase it is recomended that you use 1 farad for every 500 watts rms. If this stuff still doesn't fix the problem, then I'd start shopping around for an aftermarket high output alternator.

If you have a problem withe the car not staring and the battery dying you should check to see if you have a problem with the amp having a constant draw on the batery....

also having a good ground helps.

i was pretty impressed with portsmouthXRS set up.  It was custom and it was sweet cause he had like a 6 gauge wire fromthe trunk to the battery for both supply and ground wire.... i mean it was a clean set up!

You'd probably be better off with a yellow top seeing as how they are ment for systems. If I recall correctly....

Blue top = Marine
Red top = Normal Use
Yellow top = Stereo

Now as far as the price, I don't remember the exact amount offhand, but I belieeve it's around $125-$150.

Yes get a Yellow top and a 1Farid cap. That should be fine. If you still have a problem after that, then you should have it checked out...

Like someone above said, make sure all the grounds are good. Couldn't hurt to run 8AWG wire from the negative on the battery right to the firewall, then the same to the block, and make sure the wire from the + to the alternator is also 8AWG.

I run 4AWG to the trunk for my setup, and I have no headlight problems... on a $40 WalMart battery and an old alternator!
