i was just wondering if anyone actually has these on there car and if they installed it themselves. i've seen a few ranging from $300 to about $600. also there are rumors of them melting the leneses of the headlights. any feedback once again is appreciated.

They don't melt the lenses.
It just means that the light is much much stonger. What you do need is find a way to retrofit a Projector lense. Why? Because remember that your headlight is reflector. So your beam of light will be more "scattered" rather than "projected" so the beam will less focused. With a projector you will have a nice "cut-off" angle and you won't create a hazard for oncomming traffic. Not only that, but you will get maximum lit road area.
If you do decide to get HIDs, you might want to look at a eyelid mod, and maybe even tilt the headlights alittle downward.
do a google search for HID retrofit. There are plenty of companies that do it. But look to spend like about $700 and up. But think about it... it's better to go this route and get quality stuff like what Audi, BMW, Mercedes uses than spend $300 and get caca.
but in the end it's you :2cents: .

no, cause they are reflectors....
but you could try to see if some 350Z projectors and bulbs fit in that beast. I've seen some MR2 guys do it... and it looks killa!

Do a search on e-bay for the McCulloch HID's they are the best plug and play system out there. I would recommend the 8000 they are a little blue and most compatible to the european cars. You'll have the system in in about 30 mins with no mods to the headlight. Only thing you might have ti reaim the lights just a little. These systems run right around $300.

I got to search ebay for those kits, never heard of them. But in reality the projector retrofit is the best mod, although it is expensive. Have a look at http://www.illusion-lighting.com/ for some examples. Also a couple of people on vvt-i.net have done it as well. With that type of retrofit you will be on par with bimmers and mercedes rides, but it does put a dent in the pocket! You can always use the ebay kits, but make sure you re-align the lights to avoid too much glare. X

Wow, those retrofits look really good, plus they make it very easy to use. Have you purchased these before? And if so how is the glare.
My cuz has a '04 accord he wants to stick these in, so I will have him look at them.
Thanks!

I haven't gotten around to ordering them yet, but a lot of people on the different car forums swear by them. They are plug and play and they are bright as hell. Try to get the 3rd up to the 5th generation HID's The newer ones I heard are made differently. I prefer th 8000k because they are closes to all the eurpean cars. The 12000 are purple and the 6000k are kind of white. Good Luck

so even with the headlights i got now it wont be too bad in terms of scattering effect, although the projectors do give you that straight forward beam(duh...its a projector)

Also, I'm going to be installing a HID kit on 78 Rolla soon so hopefully that'll go smooth as well.

I agree McCulloch are probably the best plug and play out there that is what I have. As for the projector retrofit yes in order to get the best possible light output you should get them, BUT they are definitly NOT nessessary. NO they won;t melt the plastic HIDs actually burn cooler than halogens and use less energy. If you don;t do a projector retrofit then I suggest to take the headlight apart and paint the reflective parts in the headlight that you don;t actually need so it's not as scattered. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the misconception about the K rating. The higher the K rating the lower the light output. So if you get 8000K it's ALOT dimmer than say a 5000K. Most cars that come with HIDs come with 5400K. White output with a hint of color. When you see cars with HIDs that change color as you get closer those are the projectors. The ones without projectors are a bright white light. I'm currently running 5000K White with a hint of blue, but on pavement it appears with a yellow tint. 6000K and over you're asking to get pulled over by cops with nothing better to do because 6000K starts with the blue light then 8000K with purple. Once you get above 8000K you start getting less USABLE light output than halogens

You know anybody that did it and took a picture? Once you get above 8000K you start getting less USABLE light output than halogens yeah. I've seen people rave that they have 12000K, but it's useless. I was actually thinking of getting 4800K. I think it'll give me the best white output. Not really looking for any hue or hint of a different color. But i do hear ya about the cops pulling over for fun.
