what are the limits of a 1.3L turbo engine?
specifically the 4e-fte from the toyota startlet(EP82)
 Cheesy my goals are 250 whp but i am just wondering if anyone knows the limits according the the thermal efficiency and whatnot

I really don't know much about this engine, but most like Dr. Tweak will have a better idea, if not someone else that has had experience with it. I am sure when he visits again he will have some feedback.

It depends what you mean by limits. The limits of it in a form that will give you reliable power are around 150%, or 205 hp. If it was FULLY built, you could reliably get another 50hp out of it, I think, but it's hard to find forged internals for that engine.

Once you start pushing past the 150% mark (just over 200hp for you) then reliablity will drop more and more. However, when you consider that most Toyota engines will run well past 200k miles, cutting the lifespan in half or even less, isn't a bad tradeoff!

The absolute limits of it are around 400-500hp, but it wouldn't last long Cheesy

Remember too, it has a lot to do with how the power is made. For example, stroking it to 1.5 and spending more money on things like head work, and making sure the engine is tuned properly, plus how often you really get on in combined with where the boost comes on all make a difference. Smiley
